What I'm Doing in 2012

To my Friends and Family,

I'm writing this letter to tell you some exciting news, and invite you to be a part of it. In 2012, I am beginning a gospel-ministry apprenticeship in Newcastle through Hunter Bible Church. I believe that God has called me to spend my life in gospel ministry, and this apprenticeship marks an important step in that direction.

Desktop Benchmarks: Unity vs Gnome-Shell vs XFCE-Diversity

This morning I decided to play with the Fedora based Gnome3 live-CD from gnome.org I must say, I'm very impressed. After building the XFCE-Diversity Desktop last week, I decided it would be interesting to do some performance benchmarking between these systems I've been trying.

The results are below, and come out very favourably for Gnome 3 and the Gnome-shell.

Like Ubuntu, but not so sure about the Unity desktop? Want to keep the luxuries of a user-centric distro while maintaining a snappy, high workflow desktop a power-user can really enjoy? This tutorial is about how to build a customised, lightweight Ubuntu desktop from the ground up, starting with just a command line. It only takes a couple of hours, but the result is something lean, mean and easy on the eye. This tutorial is an update of one I did a couple of years ago called Minimalistic Ubuntu From Scratch
