We All Secretly Want Respect, No Matter How Bizarre Humans May Act

Now, I was laughing earlier when I heard that some people want to know how can you show respect for natural resources. What a silly idea, right?

Well, at least I think it’s silly for people to go around trying to act like they can use concepts that only apply to beings, like people, to inanimate things like resources. What’s interesting with that question is that it’s endless inside the box of respecting natural resources. That is unless you take people into account.

What’s a better question to ask? How about how can I respect myself?

Or when people start asking do you respect your husband or wife and so on in relationships. Those questions lead to actual understanding.

How Old Dead Guys Still Confound The Masses

Respect, or as we like to call it with a lisp around these parts “resplect”, is a very important concept. So much so that it’s ingrained, like a backbone to our every day lives.

Don’t agree with me?

Then try to go a day without respecting anyone else’s property. It’s so natural for you to respect most of other’s property that you would feel like a fish out of water if you tried. You’d become a vagrant criminal as well. Which is why I don’t recommend the above exercise.

Today I came across something funny. According to thoreau what should be respected

What made me laugh was how people use philosophers as oracles. No, what I’m thinking of is a guru. Where they can step up to the throne and ask their question.

Do people think for themselves?

A person who’s going around building a concept of respect from old dead guys might find some great ideas. But this person isn’t doing it properly. They’re building a bunch of pieces, and then where are all these pieces going?

For example, if you take what Thoreau said, then you plug in some other mish mash of ideas, what do you have?

Is that the correct concept of respect?

Despite Logic Helping Humans Is the Key To Saving The Environment

A friend recently asked me how does christian aid help the environment, and I had to laugh in her face. First of all, I had just been listening to a comedian talk about something similar. Where he witnessed PETA’s supposed good will. And in his research he found crazy concepts such as PETA comparing human slavery to animal “slavery”.

In reality, human lives matter more. Just take a look at recent news from CSMonitor of aid reaching people who really need it.

Then ask yourself what matters more? Saving peoples’ lives. Or saving the environment. Or is it the case that working on the environment is entirely about human happiness anyways…

Finding The True Meaning of Respect

Now, respect is quite an interesting concept. Looking back, I was never taught the correct meaning by parents or any of my authority figures. I didn’t learn it, surprisingly, until I was an adult.

The correct meaning is not treating what you’re doing as more important than what others are doing.

Simple right? But this foundational concept, once setup correctly will do wonders with your life.

R.E.S.P.L.E.C.T. – The World Now Knows What It Means To Me

Aretha Franklin said it best when she shouted out what she wanted. A little Respect. But I have a different take on this acronym she punched out.

R – Ready

E – Everyday

S – Because Sometimes

P – People

L – Let you down

C – Come back

T – Tomorrow

Yes, “resplect” might sound like a slur, but it’s what I say to myself when I roll out of bed each morning. I put on a smile, I look in the mirror, and it’s RESPLECT all the way to work. If something bad happens, something random, it doesn’t get me down.

What do you think? Do you have your own mantra? Your own version of RESPLECT?
